Request For Owner Photos
NorseBoat owners, do you have a great photo of your NorseBoat under sail or oar, or on some cruising adventure? Send a low resolution version to us by e-mail. If we use it on our web site or in our electronic newsletter you'll receive a free NorseBoat hat or Thor's Cross pewter pendant.
New Options
There are some new options available for the NorseBoat 17.5 Explorer.
Tiller Extension: we've found that the Ronstan Battlestick telescoping tiller extension is a great way to extend the reach of the helmsman. This handy device extends up to 48 inches and stows neatly on the top of the wood tiller when not in use. Black color.
Blade Jib: for those who wish to tweak the sailing performance of their NorseBoat we now offer a blade jib that can be used in higher winds and when sailing hard on the wind. The jib, made of 5 oz. cream-color Bainbridge cloth like the mainsail, uses the same hardware and lines as the screecher. Quick-pins allow for easy sail changing under way.
Drybags: high quality drybags help you keep valuables and camping gear safe and dry. The 900 cu. in. bag is ideal for cameras, cell phones, wallets, etc. The 4200 cu. in. model holds lots of gear neatly along one side of the centerboard trunk. Place one of these bags to port and one to starboard for high capacity load carrying. Red color.
Whole Boat Storage Cover: keep your NorseBoat protected when it's out of the water with one of these heavy duty covers made from rubberized fabric, similar to the rugged fabric used to make trucking tarps.
CE Certification & Shipping to Europe
The NorseBoat 17.5 is scheduled to receive CE certification for the European market by late December 2005. This means that European customers can go ahead with their orders for spring delivery if they desire. NorseBoats will be shipped to Europe in containers (two to a 20 ft. container or four to a 40 ft. container). Orders will be grouped for efficient shipping to convenient ports. Please contact us for details.
Norseboat.com Web site Updates
We strive to keep our web site up to date and informative. We've recently added a “Frequently Asked Questions” section (yes, we give the answers, too!), lots of new photos in the Gallery section, and downloadable articles and boat reviews in the Media section. Note the recently published articles in Blue Water Sailing, Cruising World, Practical Sailor, Sail, Small Craft Advisor, and Watercraft.
Pocket Cruising in a NorseBoat
More and more NorseBoat owners are taking advantage of the NorseBoat's cruising capabilities. Our most active cruisers to date are owners/agents Bill and Julie Wickett of Ontario, Canada, who made several expeditions to Georgian Bay during summer 2005. They found the NorseBoat 17.5 to be an ideal craft for exploring this stunning cruising ground in the heart of Ontario's cottage country. What makes the NorseBoat unique among pocket cruisers? First there is the sophisticated camping tent that incorporates the dodger and bimini to completely enclose the cockpit. Next, the cockpit storage hatch covers and the rowing thwarts form a comfortable, full-size double bed on level with the cockpit seats, just above the centerboard trunk. In addition a portable toilet can be stowed in the forward locker, a large cooler fits nicely forward of the centerboard trunk, and a large drybag either side of the centerboard trunk allows for ample storage for sleeping gear, clothes and food. A small battery and 12VDC outlet makes it possible to have efficient lighting and rechargeable devices on board.
Owner's Manual
We will be completing a detailed owner's manual that will be available on-line in time for the 2006 sailing season. This manual will include a description of the boat's features and components, complete rigging instructions, and information on boat storage and handling under sail, oar, or motor.
