Norseboat News - May 2006

NorseBoats To Cross The Atlantic and Pacific!
This summer a number of NorseBoats will make their way across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Okay, these seaworthy craft will actually be traveling by container ship to new customers in places such as the UK, southern France, Denmark, and Japan, but the journeys are noteworthy none-the-less. These will be the first NorseBoats to leave North America, which means that our intention to create a widespread community of NorseBoat owners and enthusiasts is becoming a reality.

Sales Remain Steady in 2006
Through this past winter and spring we have maintained a backlog of 10-12 boat orders ahead of construction and delivery. We currently have a 8 to 10-week delivery time from when we receive an order with deposit. Customers are encouraged to get their orders in soon to reserve a place in our 2006 production schedule.

NorseBoat Brokerage
Visit the Brokerage page of our website for new listings of pre-owned NorseBoats. There aren't many preowned boats available yet, but we do get them in from time to time.

NorseBoat Deliveries
This winter/spring customers took delivery of boats in Hopkinton, Westport and Florence, MA; Wickford, RI; Frederick and Annapolis, MD; Sarasota, FL; and Ft. Wayne, IN. Upcoming deliveries are scheduled to Louisiana, Kansas, Missouri, Ohio, Colorado, Japan, the UK, France and Denmark. Of course, some owners choose to pick up their boats at our shop on Prince Edward Island and enjoy the Canadian Maritimes and Maine on the way home.

The Wooden NorseBoats Are Coming!
During the winter/spring of 2006 we have been developing a plywood epoxy version of the NorseBoat 17.5. The response to this project has been overwhelming. This boat will be sold as a kit for amateur builders, or if desired completely assembled by Dagleys Boatworks in Nova Scotia. Scott Dagley, our wooden component subcontractor for the production glass version of the NorseBoat, will be offering technical support to amateur builders for a reasonable fee, and will also host periodic workshops in Nova Scotia where customers can come to learn how to to build their own boat. Please contact us if you are interested in purchasing a kit or completed wooden NorseBoat, or attending a workshop in Nova Scotia.

The NorseBoat Camping Tent
Many of our customers order the full camping tent, so we wanted to show a photo of this popular option. The main section of the tent zips onto the aft edge of the dodger and the forward edge of the bimini. There are two side curtains with windows and screens that zip onto the side and rear of the bimini and meet at a zipper aft. The cockpit hatch covers fill in the space between the rowing thwarts to form a full-size double bed. Several of our European customers have asked for a simplified version of the tent, something that can be used without the bimini and double as a temporary shelter from the elements. We will be working to develop this product over the next month.

New Options

We have added several new items to our list of options :

1. Floorboards - enhance your boat with these high quality oiled red cedar floorboards. They look great and keep your feet dry.

2. Padded Storage Bag for the oars and all sail kit components - this rugged bag has three padded layers to conveniently store and protect oars, spars, rudder/tiller assembly, mainsail, headsail, etc.

3. Boat Name on Transom - we can now put your boat's name on the transom in a font that matches the NorseBoat hull graphics.

4. Electrical Package - this includes sealed AGM battery, LED running lights, 12VDC outlet, 3-circuit breaker panel, and optional deck-mounted solar panel.

NorseBoat 17.5 Is Portable and Easy To Store
Owners are amazed at how easy the NorseBoat 17.5 is to move around by hand when she is on her trailer, and how well she fits in a standard garage. Portability and ease of storage were important design criteria, since they help make the NorseBoat more accessible.
