NorseBoat LightCraft Kits

Small boat cruising experts NorseBoat Limited and boat kit specialists Chesapeake Light Craft (CLC) have joined forces to create a unique line of rowing and sailing kits. "CLC's expertise in lapstrake smallcraft kits is a perfect fit for Norseboat," says NorseBoat president, Kevin Jeffrey. CLC has sold nearly 20,000 boat kits worldwide, while NorseBoat has enjoyed broad success with 12.5- and 17.5-foot camp-cruisers.

Envisioned as high-performance sailing and rowing craft optimized for fast construction by amateur boatbuilders, the new line will comprise five boats from 8.5 to 19.5 feet, including a 19'6" Traditional Norse Faering, simplified versions of NorseBoat 17.5 and 12.5 Cruisers, a kayak and an 8.5 ft. tender. These new kits will be sold exclusively through NorseBoat and its dealer network.

Owner Builder Workshops in Lunenburg

NorseBoat Limted is now offering one week owner builder workshops at their facility in historic Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Building a NorseBoat LightCraft Kit in Lunenburg is a rewarding experience that can be combined with a visit to Nova Scotia and the Canadian Maritimes. Workshops are offered May to October 2009. NARWHALS!!!

The Northwest Passage in a NorseBoat!

Kevin Oliver & Tony LancashireIn the summer of 2009 a 2-man team of Royal Marines from the UK will sail, row and, when necessary, drag their NorseBoat 17.5 across the ice in their attempt to navigate the arctic’s legendary Northwest Passage. The team chose a NorseBoat 17.5 to make this historic trip because of its high performance as a rowing and sailing craft, its good load carrying capacity and its comfortable camping accommodations. To find out more about this expedition or to become a sponsor visit www.arcticmariner.org.

12.5 Makes a Great Yacht Tender

A NorseBoat 12.5 Tender/Cruiser was recently installed as the tender on a new 65 ft. power yacht in Aventura, Florida. The owners wanted a tender that matched the elegant lines of their new yacht, and ideally one that could be sailed, rowed, and motored equally well with a crew of up to four on board. The NorseBoat 12.5 was a perfect fit.

Sea trials were conducted during a trip to the Bahamas February 2009. The yacht with tender will be travelling to its new home in the Mediterranean summer 2009.

NorseBoat Sarasota Rendezvous

Three NorseBoats sailed together in Sarasota Bay, Florida in January 09. Attending the impromptu rendezvous were owners Gene Sweeney of Sarasota and Teri Davies of St. Petersburg (center), and new owners of a preowned NorseBoat 17.5 Tom and Logan Livingston (right). Tom lives and works in the arctic, and is helping with logistics on the Arctic Mariner Expedition. Logan lives and works on a tall ship in New York City. There are plans for a 3-day NorseBoat “Raid” (cruising regatta) on the west coast of Florida winter 2010. Please contact us if you are interested in taking part in this event.

A Larger NorseBoat Cruiser?

We have recently been asked if rumours circulating on docks about the development of a larger NorseBoat Cruiser are true. The answer is yes, we are currently working on the concept for a NorseBoat Cruiser in the 21.5-22.5 ft. range. The new design will have distinctly NorseBoat lines and features, but with a split sail rig, a cuddy cabin, a ballasted centerboard or optional keel, a self-bailing cockpit, and two rowing stations. The first four customers will have the opportunity to take part in the design and development of this new craft. Please contact us if you are interested in this opportunity.
