"...sexy
looking with a sweet sheerline and a shapely bow profile."
-Robert Perry, naval architect
The NorseBoat Consortium. To ensure that innovation and quality are at the forefront, NorseBoat Limited has formed a consortium of sailing industry leaders to design, build, and market the NorseBoat. This consortium includes yacht designers, builders, industry leading suppliers, and a network of committed NorseBoat agents and industry advisors.
| "Though reasonably priced, the NorseBoat is strictly high-end." |
- SAIL Magazine, April 2005 |
| "The...distinctions of this beautifully conceived and executed rig are legion: a two-piece carbon-fiber mast, unstayed; a fascinating curved gaff; a roller-furling jib; multiple mainsheet/traveler positions in the cockpit with a sliding strap on the boom; color-coded running rigging with matching deck hardware; the quite forward mast position and short mainsail foot which combine to allow the skipper to sail in apparent boomless luxury. This unconventional marriage of hull and rig has engendered a really fine sailing boat." |
-Geoff Kerr, Small Boats |
| "Every now and then along comes a new centerboard design that cries to be sailed, rowed, used as a camper, or just to be looked at and admired. Such a sweet vessel is the 17'6" lapstrake NorseBoat Explorer." |

17.5
Design.
The heritage behind this craft is both the open sea boats of the Norse sailors
and the seaworthy, partially decked beach skiffs used by fishermen in the
1800s along the New Jersey shore. Blended with this heritage are many design
innovations and high-quality modern construction.
NorseBoat is a gaff-rigged cat with a lapstrake hull, a raking transom, a lovely curved stem and graceful sheer. She has a modest deck to keep her dry, a small wineglass transom for buoyancy and to accept a small motor if desired, positive flotation for safety, and a pivoting centerboard and kick-up rudder for shallow draft explorations. The fully battened mainsail is powerful yet easy to manage, and simple to reef when the wind pipes up. An optional roller-furling jib sail kit improves performance on various points of sail (includes bowsprit, Harken furler, hardware and lines), while a 3/4 oz. nylon drifter gives exceptional lightwind performance (uses same headsail gear as jib) In addition to "oar power", NorseBoat customers can mount a longshaft Torqueedo foldable electric outboard or a 2-4 hp gas outboard directly to the transom.
| "Inspired by nineteenth-century fishing skiffs, the NorseBoat is designed to be a seaworthy and trailerable coastal explorer... The carefully crafted curved gaff transforms the traditional-looking mainsail into a modern full-batten fat-roach blade... the helm is forgiving and the boat is easily single-handed." |

NorseBoat
Construction. We offer three choices of NorseBoat 17.5 construction: 1) Infused resin fiberglass construction throughout; 2) Hybrid construction using infused resin fiberglass for the hull and mahogany ply/epoxy for the interior and deck (deck and seat tops have a thin layer of glass cloth for abrasion resistance); and 3) Mahogany ply/epoxy and solid wood construction throughout. The NorseBoat 12.5 is available as a glass/wood hybrid as described above. All glass/wood hybrids and completely wooden boats are available prefinished or as kits for amateur construction.
Incorportated into the finished boats are high-quality wood components and superior grade deck hardware and fittings. The result is strong, lightweight boats that are beautiful yet low maintenance.
